In April, Dr. Syifa will present a paper “‘I should have made sure it was accessible’ –Cultivating Science Teachers’ Epistemic Empathy in Teaching Blind and Low-Vision Students” at NARST 2026.

Dr. Shaheen presented at the 2025 ASSETS Conference.

Dr. Shaheen presented in the first webinar of the NCADEMI Powering Digital Accessibility Through Systemic Action webinar series. Dr. Shaheen shared stories from the A11y in Sci library to help educators understand the impact that accessible and inaccessible technologies have on disabled students’ learning. A recording of the webinar is archived on NCADEMI’s YouTube Channel.

Drs. Syifa and Shaheen presented at the ISLAND Conference. They shared emerging findings from the Learning to Listen study, exploring science teachers’ experiences learning from blind and low-vision students through the A11y in Sci case library.  

Dr. Shaheen presented at the U.S. Department of Education Office of Special Education Program’s 2025 Conference along with Cynthia Curry from The National Center on Accessible Digital Educational Materials & Instruction and Johan Rempel from The Rhonda Weiss Center for Accessible IDEA Data. During the presentation, Dr. Shaheen will debut two stories from the A11y in Sci case library.
